PEER SUBJECT TUTORS

The Center for Academic Support and Advising (CASA) is committed to providing an environment for active and cooperative learning.  An important part of this environment is our tutoring programs.  Tutoring in Biology, Chemistry, Economic, Business Administration, Computer Science, French, Spanish, and History is offered via our subject tutor program.

Many people regard tutoring as a sign of weakness – something one seeks out only in desperate circumstances. But in reality, tutoring is far from that image.  Many students at top colleges are likely to see a tutor to get a more competitive edge and a better handle on complex material.

Neither high school grades nor SAT scores are good predictors of college performance.  College level work is much more difficult and requires critical thinking skills that students may have never before been asked to use.  Tutors can help students make that jump from just learning material to APPLYING that material.

Subject tutors are juniors and seniors with strong academic records that are hired based on the recommendation of their professors and strong academic records.
